CCTV FOR COMMERCIAL PREMISES

Commercial CCTV
Systems & Monitoring

USSG arranges commercial CCTV requirements through trusted specialist suppliers. Discuss a new installation, an existing system or remote monitoring, with the supplier, scope and responsibilities agreed before work starts.

Specialist supplier delivery · Site-specific proposals · 24/7 support

START WITH THE PURPOSE

What do you need your CCTV to do?

An entrance check, an overview of a loading yard and an out-of-hours alert are different requirements. Start with the areas of concern, who uses the site and what should happen when something needs attention.

USSG discusses your brief and arranges specialist supplier input. Learn about the company behind your site support. The proposal should explain the camera coverage, recording or monitoring requirements and practical limits of the system.

New CCTV installation

Describe the views you need and the site conditions. A supplier assessment considers camera positions, lighting, mounting, power and connections before equipment is specified.

Existing system review

Share the equipment details and what is not working well. Compatibility, image quality and recording arrangements need checking before an upgrade is proposed.

Remote CCTV monitoring

Agree what is monitored, when alerts are reviewed and who receives an escalation. Monitoring availability and response arrangements are confirmed separately.

FROM CAMERA TO ACTION

Recording is only one part of the brief.

This illustrates the decisions to agree for a monitored system. The actual design depends on the site and supplier proposal.

Capture

Which areas need a useful view, in the lighting and conditions you actually have?

Record

Where is footage stored, for what purpose and who can access it?

Review

If monitoring is included, which alerts are checked and during which hours?

Escalate

Who is contacted, what information is shared and who is authorised to respond?

An installed camera does not automatically include live monitoring or a site attendance service. Each element must be specified.

THE VIEW DEPENDS ON THE SITE

Different premises. Different camera priorities.

Security officer at a warehouse vehicle checkpoint

Warehouses & industrial sites

Discuss vehicle entrances, loading areas and out-of-hours activity. Consider changing light, obstructions and the distance between the camera and the area of interest.

On-site guarding for your premises
Security officer at retail premises

Retail & customer entrances

Discuss entrances, circulation routes and the purpose of each view. Staff and customer privacy should be considered alongside the operational requirement.

HOW THE REQUIREMENT IS ARRANGED

Agree the brief.
Then specify the system.

The starting point is your site and the problem you want to address. Equipment and service choices follow the assessment.

USSG team discussing site requirements
  1. Tell us about your premises

Send the postcode, areas of concern, operating hours and any existing equipment details. Explain whether you need recording, monitoring or both.

  2. Arrange the specialist assessment

The supplier reviews the practical requirements, coverage and infrastructure. Access arrangements and any survey visit are agreed with you.

  3. Review the written proposal

Confirm the named supplier, equipment or work, relevant credentials, charges and responsibilities. Clarify what is included and excluded.

  4. Confirm handover and support

Agree testing, authorised access, user instructions and the route for reporting faults. Where monitoring is included, confirm escalation contacts before it starts.

CLARITY BEFORE COMMITMENT

Check responsibility as carefully as coverage.

Footage & privacy

  • Identify who controls the footage and its purpose.
  • Review camera views, signage and authorised access.
  • Agree justified retention, secure storage and disclosure procedures.

Use the ICO’s video surveillance guidance when reviewing responsibilities. CCTV equipment alone does not establish compliance.

Licensing & delivery

  • Confirm who supplies installation, maintenance and monitoring.
  • Check credentials against the actual work.
  • Agree escalation contacts and response responsibilities.

SIA licensing depends on the activities carried out. Review the SIA’s CCTV licensing explanation; a camera’s type alone does not determine the licence required.

CCTV INSTALLATION & RUNNING COSTS

What should a CCTV quotation include?

A useful quotation separates the installation from ongoing services. Camera count alone does not explain the work or the operating cost.

Equipment
Cameras, recording or storage equipment and any agreed supporting hardware.
Installation
Mounting, access, cabling, power, network work and testing included in the scope.
Ongoing service
Monitoring hours, maintenance arrangements, storage or connectivity charges where applicable.
Changes & response
Charges for additional work, call-outs or attendance, if these are part of the arrangement.

CCTV QUESTIONS

Before you choose a system.

Practical answers about the supplier, monitoring, costs and your next step.

Does USSG install or monitor CCTV directly?

USSG arranges CCTV requirements through trusted specialist suppliers. The proposal identifies the supplier, scope, responsibilities and applicable credentials before work is agreed. USSG’s SIA Approved Contractor scope covers Security Guarding and Key Holding; it is not presented as CCTV approval.

What is the difference between CCTV recording and monitoring?

Recording stores footage for later review. Monitoring adds an agreed process for reviewing live images or alerts. A monitored service needs defined operating hours, verification steps, escalation contacts and response arrangements. Recording alone does not mean someone is watching.

Can you help with an existing CCTV system?

Send the system make, approximate age, known faults and any available specification. A specialist supplier can assess compatibility, condition and the work required before proposing repairs, upgrades or monitoring. Compatibility is not assumed.

Can I request overnight CCTV monitoring?

You can discuss overnight or other monitoring hours. The specialist supplier confirms the available service and escalation arrangements. USSG provides 24/7 support, but this does not mean continuous CCTV monitoring is included in every proposal.

How much does commercial CCTV installation cost?

The price depends on the site, camera coverage, installation access, cabling, power, connectivity and storage requirements. Monitoring and maintenance may be separate recurring charges. A site-specific proposal should distinguish equipment, installation and ongoing services.

Who can access the recordings?

The agreed arrangement should identify who controls the footage and which authorised people can view, export or disclose it. Your organisation should review its data protection responsibilities with the supplier and use current ICO guidance.

Does CCTV monitoring include a security response?

Only if the proposal includes it. Agree who receives alerts and whether a key holder or security officer will attend. Attendance, hours and charges need separate confirmation; automatic police attendance is not promised.

Can CCTV replace an on-site security officer?

CCTV and guarding serve different purposes. A camera can provide images, while an officer can carry out agreed access checks, patrols and other physical site duties. Discuss the risks and required response before deciding whether one service or a combination is appropriate.

How do I request a CCTV assessment?

Contact USSG with your site postcode, the areas of concern, existing equipment and required hours. We discuss the requirement and arrange specialist supplier input where appropriate before confirming the proposed scope.
